A new chapter...
After getting married, having a baby and coming out of a year of sleep deprivation I think I can now focus on some music! I’ve got a couple gigs booked and I’m working up some songs. Really trying to schedule some time for writing but it’s amazing how a one year old can take up all your time - but I wouldn’t change it for the world!
While I was pregnant in the spring of 2005, I attended the Songwriting Intensive workshop in Summerland. As always it was wonderful to be around other writers and to share in the creative process and hear how the songs developed over the course of a weekend. I’m grateful to Ken Smedley, Roy Forbes and Bill Henderson for their time and commitment in making this gathering possible for writers and sharing their expertise in the craft and also including songwriters in the Songwriter Showcases throughout the valley.
My last gig before my belly got too big for my guitar was the Summerland Folk Festival in August 2005. What a great experience it was too perform in the park and be treated so well by the organizers and volunteers. A big thanks to Summerland for their wonderful hospitality!
Well something had to give, so I resigned from my regular job at the Women’s Shelter to be at home with my little one. It was and it wasn’t an easy decision. I started working at the Kelowna Women’s Shelter 16 years ago as a summer student and eventually worked my way into a management position. I really valued working with the women and children at the shelter and with my co-workers. I learned so much over the years about healthy relationships and how important it is to work on self-development and those areas of your life that need healing and to never compromise yourself or your values. Working at the Shelter has been one of life’s greatest gifts and I carry forward the lessons I learned there into my new life as a wife and mother. Right now, I am fortunate to stay at home with my son and watch him grow. Family and music, it doesn’t get any better than that for me.
I’ll say good bye for now, thank you for checking in and all the best to you.
